At first glance, software development, or to be more precise, the management of the SDLC (software development lifecycle), may not seem related to ITIL (information technology infrastructure library, or why you need ITIL certification to further a career path that involves software development. However, there are ways that the two approaches are not only compatible but can even be considered two sides of the same coin. The SDLC side is a lifecycle approach to create the product – software. The ITIL side is a lifecycle approach that concentrates on the service. To understand how these two lifecycle approaches integrate, you first have to understand what they each entail.

You have to submit your application to become a Master, and if your application is accepted, you will be required to submit a proposal. If this is successful, you will be required to submit a work package. The final stage of the Master scheme consists of an interview with a panel of assessors and, if successful, you will be granted ITIL Master certification.

To gain qualification as an ITIL Master, candidates have to have his/her work peer-reviewed by a panel of experts. Once an ITIL Expert has achieved this status, the ITIL Master can wear a lapel pin based on the colour of the ITIL Service Design book, which also has a Gold M in the centre.

In 2000/2001, to make ITIL more accessible (and affordable), ITIL Version 2 consolidated the publications into nine logical "sets" that grouped related process-guidelines to match different aspects of IT management, applications and services. The Service Management sets (Service Support and Service Delivery) were by far the most widely used, circulated, and understood of the ITIL Version 2 publications.[citation needed]


Without any question, InfoSec has the most gifted individual instructors. Our instructor for this class was both an excellent educator and a premier/world class security expert. He was able to clearly explain and impart to the students, the most complicated security techniques I have ever heard of or imagined. I simply can not find the words to recommend him and Infosec security training more highly.

Just like achieving an ITIL certification provides higher paying job opportunities and bolsters a resume, the expertise gained will also often give you more options in terms of job roles within the organization. Candidates with proficiencies in any of the upper-level ITIL courses will have their pick of the litter right away when it comes to where they want to go and what they want to do. So often in IT, employees must “pay their dues” so to speak, and settle on low-level roles or contractor positions until they prove themselves and showcase the knowledge and skillset required for more lucrative opportunities. With an ITIL certification, employees can often skip this process, and recruiters may decide to take input from the certified professional on where he or she wants to go right away at a competitive starting salary.
As Paul Wilkinson points out here, nearly 85% of folks he meets have undergone ITIL training (out of 15,000 people).  Only 2% of these folks measure the impact in terms of cost, value, risks and other outcomes of their IT initiatives. For successful adoption of ITIL for your service desk, all the stakeholders need to be on the same page, speak the same language, work towards the same goals by succeeding in iterative and incremental projects. Axelos and the ITIL Development Group, made up of more than 2,000 ITIL stakeholders worldwide, began working on an update to ITIL V3 in late 2017. That work continued throughout 2018, and Axelos has announced upcoming changes to the ITIL certifications known as ITIL 4. Master Level: This is the fifth and the highest level of the ITIL certification. ITIL Intermediate: There are two streams in the Intermediate level: the Service Lifecycle Stream and the Service Capability Stream. You can opt to take individual modules within this level, however, if you wish to progress through the ITIL qualification scheme you will need to earn a minimum of 17 credits (two credits must be earned from Foundation) before you can take the Managing across the Lifecycle module and exam. By passing this, you will achieve a total of 22 credits, which you can use towards the ITIL Expert level of certification.
